It was his fascination with anthropology that led Kirk back to the original existential question- the first step. The ability to walk upright fundamentally changed human beings from their evolutionary prototypes and became the defining hallmark of human aspiration.

The step, this tentative foray into the world, was followed by the emboldened stride. It captured human movement as propelled by urgency and determination. Whereas walking possesses a natural, repetative rhythm, the stride grasps and marks distrances; it literally stretches the walker.
